Royal Falcon

About Royal Falcon:

Royal Falcon are an Auckland-based band, making music akin to a deranged drifter at the window. Their raucous psychedelic country blues songwriting merges dark narrative and creeping dynamics with an explosive aural assault to create something quite intense.

Founding members Dan Pilkington (Vocals, Guitar) and Gareth Hays (Bass) established a songwriting partnership through their long-standing association with Maternal Records, having been heavily schooled in the primal rock outpourings of that label.

Perry Hooper (Guitar) is the gutsy blues protagonist at the forefront of the band. Hooper has a transcendent affinity for the Royal Falcon, and his searing leads cut through with surgical precision.

Heath King (Vocals, Drums) is the swinging dynamo that makes this bird fly, also handling lead vocals with aplomb. King is a proficient percussionist and demonstrates an array of styles, but relishes the Falcon’s call to keep it simple and solid.

Musical wayfarer Rob Simpson (Trombone, Harmonica, Percussion, Optical Theremin) wears many hats, proffering a multi- instrumental swag-bag to weave a colourful thread through all of Royal Falcon’s compositions.

Jared Greenwood (Guitar, Vocals) lends a deft hand and soulful voice, adding dextrous guitar lines to the mix. A long standing co-conspirator, Greenwood is now fully in the fold, and has stamped his presence on the Royal Falcon sound.

Despite being rocked by the untimely death of inspirational leader Dan Pilkington, the band has remained committed to their original vision, pushing on to release subsequent albums, and their music has been picked-up by and features heavily in South Pacific Pictures’ popular television series ‘Go Girls’, where it has been used to great effect, exposing the band to an audience outside of the sweaty Auckland live scene.

Maisey Rika

About Maisey Rika:

Maori singer/songwriter Maisey Rika has one of Aotearoa’s (New Zealand’s) most impressive lead vocal styles, fused with her honest and thought invoking messages.

Some have described her sound similar to Tracey Chapman or Sade, with a splash of India Arie. Her spine tingling vocals and fusion of English and Maori (Te Reo) lyrics is capturing the hearts of soul seekers both in New Zealand and abroad.

Maisey and guitarist J.J, have worked to create an original melodic experience backed with strong eclectic messages. A mix of folk, acoustic, soul and easy listening, their musical palette is vibrant with elements of roots and deep culture.

Maisey’s songs are filled with touching tales and the universal emotions of hardship, happiness, love, justice and sorrow we can all relate to;  her strong heritage, eclectic songs, and her honey-stung vocals are quickly traveling around the world, from Aotearoa shores into international hearts.

Rackets

About Rackets:

Rackets are a stoner-rock band from Auckland.

Rackets (no ‘the’) are two overweight caucasians and a Bulgarian. At one point in their careers they all worked together at the same supermarket. It was rat shit. Coming together over a shared love of the Pixies, Nirvana and Hawaiian shirts, a powerful bond was forged.

‘I (Jeremy) was/am in God Bows To Math and Oscar and Vinnie where in The Randoms. We started a band called We Score Trys. The Randoms broke up and we decided, hey, lets be in a proper band together. We did and it was called Rackets.

We all play different instruments so it’s like who ever writes a riff on any instrument gets to play that instrument. Then the other guys chose what instrument they want to play on the song. We record live with a man called Bob Frisbee.’

Rackets are:

Oscar, Vince and Jeremy.

Roofdog

About Roofdog:

Wedged in between the worlds of reggae and punk, Roofdog have been making people dance en masse since 1999. Their brand of guitar driven ska music has taken them up and down the country many times and across the ditch for the 2012 Ska Weekender tour of Australia.

2010 saw the release of their long awaited self titled album with the first pressing selling out quickly and the 2nd snatched up almost as fast. Tracks Drop the Bomb and Metalliska were standout tracks which received airplay on BFM, BaseFM and other local stations.

Equally at home playing with the likes of Aotearoa reggae legends Unity Pacific or at the annual NZ punkfest Roofdog has shared the stage with a variety of top NZ acts. In 2011 Roofdog supported US touring acts the Aggrolites and No Use For a Name for packed out shows at Auckland’s Kings Arms. October 2014 saw Roofdog opening up for 2-tones legends the Selecter at the Studio in Auckland. The chance to support UK punk legends Stiff LIttle Fingers on their 2008 NZ tour was keenly accepted including shows at Auckland’s Powerstation and Christchurch’s Civic. Other notable gigs include Stony River Ska fest, Toots and Grooves, and the 2013 Auckland Ska Festival and have also enjoyed a five year collaboration with Exponents front man Jordan Luck, playing at the annual Strummer Day tribute gig for Joe Strummer.

With a new album’s worth of material already written the next Roofdog release is planned for early 2015.
