CubaDupa March 2015

CubaDupa is Wellington’s new, vibrant street festival revering the epic creative spirit of Cuba Street and the Wellington community. Cuba Street will once again be turned into one big party when its annual carnival returns with a new name and a new focus in 2015.

Occurring over the weekend of 28-29th of March, CubaDupa is a celebration of the change of season – one last summer party before everyone starts hunkering down for the winter. The festival aims to bring together people from all walks of life in an immersive experience where Wellington’s most iconic street will be transformed into a magical playground of light, sound and taste.

In true street festival style, the premise of CubaDupa is that the audience will help create the show, with a variety of opportunities to dress up, dance and be part of the action – from flash mobs to street theatre, décor to dance bands, and much more!

Midday Saturday, CubaDupa will kick off with a mass choir involving six different choirs starting from different areas of the festival site and processioning through the streets converging to come together to sing a piece especially created for CubaDupa.

Four stages feature performance and music from the wild to the spectacular, travelling the genres of Americana, Hip-Hop, Electro Swing, Folk and Blues.

Throughout the day and evening performers will appear at various times on stages and on the street – forming many small processions and vignettes. Come Dance the CubaDupa!

The Cuba Quarter is undeniably a home of eclectic tastes, with delightful flavours from around the world. On Saturday 28th March the Street Food Festival offers over 60 food experiences Рserved on the street from restaurants, cafes, and bars who proudly call Cuba Street home. Sunday 29th March will be Dining in the Streets, turning Cuba St into a large outdoor caf̩!

Over the weekend, the roads will be pedestrianised from Manners Street up to Karo Drive and between Taranaki and Victoria Streets (with the exception of Vivian Street) to beguile Cuba Street alive with a myriad of dance, music, theatre, live street art, carnival, circus, and street food.

So join the celebration and do the CubaDupa!
