Metaphysics

About Metaphysics:

Zimbabwean born Metaphysics (a.k.a. Herbert Schwamborn) is regarded as one of Africa’s hip hop pioneers. Based in Germany, and soon to hit the shores of New Zealand, he is a member of the multi-platinum German band Sons Of Mannheim (Söhnemannheims).

Metaphysics has won an Echo Award for his music (German equivalent of a Grammy Award). He has toured around the world opening for artists such as Wyclef Jean, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Eyed Peas, Busta Ryhmes, Fat Joe and many other established groups in the hip hop scene.

Metaphysics delivers a high energy set consisting of a mixture of Hip-Hop and Reggae Dancehall – dropping socio
conscious lyrics over classic Rap anthems.

Tapfuma Gerald Munengami

About Tapfuma Gerald Munengami:

Well my name’s Tapfuma Gerald Munengami most people refer to me as Storm or Child Ether. I am a writer and a musician hence the aliases. I have been writing and making music since as far back as I can remember – most probably since I was about eight years old.

I have had an interesting life but when my father died, I went silent and was drawn to written words and music to express my emotion. Life has had its ups and downs, but I guess life is a school master and you can’t test a muscle or how much you have grown through time unless you go through the downs and still come up.

I try to make music and write to be positive, honest and sometimes to address truths society would rather sweep under the rug – like fatherless homes and society, racism, and love, I guess. I figure life’s about getting to know yourself because we are constantly changing. There are things I said I would never do that I have done, and when I did a life audit recently I wasn’t where I pictured myself when the dream first started. I take life in my stride and have a sense of humour about it.

I trust Jesus, live my life and try to be the best me I can be and, as I said, keep on discovering myself. I have no intention of being generic in this life time, I try my best not to judge people…. That’s about me, my life – anything else you want to know, just ask…. Stay blessed, Tapfuma.

Albums

I also have had the pleasure of making a free soundtrack for a short book. I hope you enjoy.

The All Seeing Hand

About The All Seeing Hand:

A Turntable/Drum/Throat Trio.

The All Seeing Hand recognises progress.
The All Seeing Hand facilitates progress.
The All Seeing Hand is progress.
Extraction is progress.
Conversion is progress.
The All Seeing Hand converts.

The All Seeing Hand are collaborators in conversion. Alphabethead provides a dense weaved fabric of sounds, culled through filters and needles. He has created the subliminal future from the carcasses of redundant songs. Jonny Marks breathes your spent breath and mumbled words, and exhales harmonically rich vocals; while you struggle to decipher his language your synapses are firing new paths. B Michael Knight hears your heart and beats it irregular. While your chest collapses with pounding toms, your brain pulsates with frantic snares.

The All Seeing Hand is comprised of Alphabethead (masterful Turntablist gestated in the Hip Hop battle scene before branching into every direction at once, working everything from orchestral gamelan and Inuit folk music to post-punk and electronica into his compositions) Jonny Marks on vocals (a true sonic explorer, traditionally-trained Mongolian throat-singer and high-energy front-person) and Benjamin Knight on drums (trained in the energy of DIY punk and hardcore, tightly binding the whole sound together with drumming that is equal parts driving and frantic).

Alphabethead

About Alphabethead:

Adrift in the sonic cosmos, somewhere between the constellations of Hip Hop, Free Jazz and Experimental Rock exists Alphabethead; a tea-drinking, turntable musician from New Zealand.

For over 10 years, using the techniques of scratching Alphabethead has breathed life into the skeletons of redundant vinyl. He has been described as “a virtuoso of the phonograph turntable” and “an outrageous performer whom you really must see to fully comprehend”.

Once New Zealand’s Champion Turntablist, Alphabethead is now an explorer of sound. His attraction to the turntable as a musical instrument was the endless possibilities that manipulation of sound on vinyl offers. A turntables colour palette is essentially the entire recorded history of music! Previously unheard combinations of sound can be melded together to form new musical landscapes.

Sitar and Theremin can duet with Tibetan Monk chants and a Mingus horn section, all atop a rhythmic backdrop of voodoo drumming and bowed double-bass! Expect to hear wonderfully strange sounds coaxed from the turntable, untried aural unions and mechanized, scatterbrain beats.

The Dastardly Bounder

About The Dastardly Bounder:

The Dastardly Bounder is a cad and a total scallywag! He produces a mixture of chunky dancefloor  tunes and head noddery, eagerly appropriating classic sounds from  rhythm and blues, dub, rock and old school hip hop.

Jamie (aka The Dastardly Bounder) started New Zealand’s seminal dance music festival Entrain in 1993 and was one of the original group that started Splore. Since then he has performed at every Splore, including playing the first song. Jamie also bought us Doc Westie’s Bogan Circus.

The Dastardly Bounder’s music is overflowing at the seams with funktronica. Expect something strange and splendid from the Dastardly Bounder.
