Ant Wars

About Ant Wars:

Hailing from Mount Maunganui, NZ, and formed in 2012, Ant Wars are a 5 piece band consisting of brothers Kaine & Jamie Harkins (Vocals & Bass), Simon Leigh Mackenzie (Drums), Simon Fritchley (Rhythm Guitar) and Aaron Cutforth (Lead Guitar).

With numerous live shows under their belt, playing with such acts as Shihad, I Am Giant and Cairo Knife Fight to name a few, Ant Wars have spent the best part of a year and a half perfecting their sound and constructing a cutting edge live show and set that is said to be explosive and mesmerizing.

Their songs vary from track to track and feel no need to stay within a certain genre – shifting between punk, blues, rock, soundscape & desert rock in one set while still maintaining integrity and a unique sound.

Ant Wars have taken a flying leap into the NZ music scene with gusto and intend to make themselves known and get their music out the best way they know how – through kick ass songs and memorable live shows.

2015 sees the band currently in the process of recording their first full length album along with making their own videos to each track.

Influences range from Fugazi, QOTSA, Melvins through to Motley Crue, Weezer and Shihad.

Needless Cane

About Needless Cane:

Born of the ashes of a former project, frontman Needless and bassist Ruby went on to create the band Needless Cane. Surviving countless line-up changes with only N. Cane remaining as the constant member (Ruby was not to reunite with the band until mid-2012), the band quickly became the torch bearer for alternative music in its hometown of Timaru.

Following the reunion with former Omega drummer Emlyn James (The Grem), things took a new turn when Cane hooked up with bassist turned guitarist Morgandrogyny. Together the horrible trio would explore new territory in gothic industrial metal in their new hometown of Wellington, New Zealand.

Needless Cane has fulfilled a few goals since living in Wellington, with the release of the band’s latest EP ‘The Sun Did Not Shine’ also the amazing S&M filled surreal tea party music video that was ‘Hemlock Lemonade’ and a couple of tours.

The band has plans to get in the studio to work on their debut album and has hopes to venture outside of New Zealand and spread their Black Plague to international waters.

‘It becomes so psychedelic that each viewer can quietly drift in the depths of his imagination, through stabbing guitars and technical sound, followed by a pair of rhythmic bass-drums raptures.Elovite – Sons of Metal

‘This seven track EP brings that heavy, yet melodic sound that conjures up instant dark imagery and blackness, before swiftly bringing a strong industrial sound that finishes off the last three tracks.’ Burned_By_My_Lighter – Music.net.nz

‘Hemlock Lemonade is the main track of the EP, featuring strong melody and a full sound with a powerful and catchy main-riff.’ Vince Clark – ALTearoa

‘Switch tea for absinthe and crazy hats for BDSM, kink and goth and that’s a bit of what you got here, not to mention the girls in nothing but glow in the dark paint.’ ASMITH – Music.net.nz

The All Seeing Hand

About The All Seeing Hand:

A Turntable/Drum/Throat Trio.

The All Seeing Hand recognises progress.
The All Seeing Hand facilitates progress.
The All Seeing Hand is progress.
Extraction is progress.
Conversion is progress.
The All Seeing Hand converts.

The All Seeing Hand are collaborators in conversion. Alphabethead provides a dense weaved fabric of sounds, culled through filters and needles. He has created the subliminal future from the carcasses of redundant songs. Jonny Marks breathes your spent breath and mumbled words, and exhales harmonically rich vocals; while you struggle to decipher his language your synapses are firing new paths. B Michael Knight hears your heart and beats it irregular. While your chest collapses with pounding toms, your brain pulsates with frantic snares.

The All Seeing Hand is comprised of Alphabethead (masterful Turntablist gestated in the Hip Hop battle scene before branching into every direction at once, working everything from orchestral gamelan and Inuit folk music to post-punk and electronica into his compositions) Jonny Marks on vocals (a true sonic explorer, traditionally-trained Mongolian throat-singer and high-energy front-person) and Benjamin Knight on drums (trained in the energy of DIY punk and hardcore, tightly binding the whole sound together with drumming that is equal parts driving and frantic).

Alphabethead

About Alphabethead:

Adrift in the sonic cosmos, somewhere between the constellations of Hip Hop, Free Jazz and Experimental Rock exists Alphabethead; a tea-drinking, turntable musician from New Zealand.

For over 10 years, using the techniques of scratching Alphabethead has breathed life into the skeletons of redundant vinyl. He has been described as “a virtuoso of the phonograph turntable” and “an outrageous performer whom you really must see to fully comprehend”.

Once New Zealand’s Champion Turntablist, Alphabethead is now an explorer of sound. His attraction to the turntable as a musical instrument was the endless possibilities that manipulation of sound on vinyl offers. A turntables colour palette is essentially the entire recorded history of music! Previously unheard combinations of sound can be melded together to form new musical landscapes.

Sitar and Theremin can duet with Tibetan Monk chants and a Mingus horn section, all atop a rhythmic backdrop of voodoo drumming and bowed double-bass! Expect to hear wonderfully strange sounds coaxed from the turntable, untried aural unions and mechanized, scatterbrain beats.
